Board Members

Future Next’s Board of Directors gives a voice to the concerns for development, outreach planning and opportunities of our stakeholders, parents, youth and respective communities we serve. Representatives come from the DC metro area’s ethnic and socioeconomic diversity with a variety of life experiences, from different backgrounds in urban, rural and suburban communities. They also bring with them a variety of key skills, while sharing the same passion for youth education and understanding of the importance of after school and summer academic and enrichment programs. The Board of Directors plays an integral role in shaping the activities and direction of Future Next. We are driven by our passion to inspire and motivate youth to press beyond limiting circumstances and environments and be inspired to reach their full potential through personalized attention, exposure, support and being provided with life impacting resources.

 

Board members achieve this by overseeing and directing the activities of Future Next committees, volunteers, working groups, and staff, ensuring that Future Next is providing quality programming that is beneficial to participants’ personal and academic growth. The board also ensures that Future Next meets the growing demand and stays aware of trends in households, communities, education and after school policy and laws, while making sure we are operating ethically and responsibly in a trustworthy and transparent manner. Nicole M. Thomas – Chair
Accountant

nthomasNicole Thomas is a graduate of American Public University. She currently works in the role as an Accountant for Veracity Engineering where she enjoys her career and working with top executives and management teams.

In her current role as an Accountant with Veracity Engineering LLC. she is responsible for compliance, policy development, tracking finance cost variations such as revenues and expenses, contract funding and modifications, direct and indirect costs, funding forecast and projections, coding, general ledger accounts accuracy and maintaining support documentation.

Her efforts has established financial goals to ensure share of corporate profitability of products and services, implement, execute and manage financial programs and plans, both short and long term, to ensure the profit growth. Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors so that opportunities may be capitalized.

Nicole has over 13 years of experience and has held managerial positions with both corporate and government entities in financial management, business development, and sponsor recruitment and a track record of revolutionizing programs profitability, popularity, and performance. With a strong drive to help others grow professionally, coupled with a personal conviction of life-long learning. She is proactive in promoting team progress toward event and program organization and management.

Nicole competencies include working with management teams to:

  • Manage procedures of the importance of Quality Assurance
  • Working to gain and maintain financial integrity for healthier financial sustainability

Nicole has passion for philanthropic activities. She consistently play a strong role in support of the community needs and has been socially responsible through the selfless support to various school systems, parent and women leadership groups.

Nicole quotes "Every child deserves the opportunity to explore and experience things outside their circumstances and environments. I have come to realize that what distinguishes one child from another is not ability, but access; access to education, access to opportunity, access to love. It is very important for outlets and platforms be established and made available to youth outside of home and school to sustain positive growth and achievements. Nicole also believes as adults we all have to lead by example. Every child wants to be loved and reassured that s/he can succeed and reach their goals in life. Her famous quote is "It's not where you start that matters, it's where you finish"

Dana Latimer – Vice Chair
Program Manager

danaDana Latimer is currently an Information Technology Senior Program/Project Manager supporting the Department of Defense. Her degree is in Human Resources Management which has helped develop better relationships in her career as well as personal life. She is the mother of a beautiful daughter which is her pride and joy.

Dana has been a volunteer for over fifteen years and believes that giving back to our community is one of the best selfless acts anyone can do. She has volunteered with her church, for President Carter - former President of the Unites States, and also received Presidential recognition for her years of service. She aspires to obtain her Masters in Early Childhood development and change career paths to help educate our youth. Dana is passionate about education, mentoring and making a positive impact on someone else’s life.

Letonya Smalls – Secretary
Special Education Teacher

Letonya SmallsLetonya, comes to us with experience as a teacher working with children in the child care setting as well as the public school disciplinarians. Currently, Letonya is a teacher working directly in special education in a self contained classroom setting. Letonya is currently pursuing her Maters degree in Elementary Education. Letonya, also dedicates herself to her loving family has she too resides in Waldorf, Maryland and proud mother of 2 beautiful children. Letonya, gives back to her community by volunteering as a tutor, mentor and actively participates in her church children's ministry." I am excited about FNC vision. It is the example of what is missing in the lives of young children today"

MacLean Struthers – Board Member at large

Maclean is an active member of the Washington, D.C. community and has a deep passion for making the world around him a better place. He recognizes the immediate need for programs that are directed at working with our vulnerable youth. After diligently looking for organizations that were successfully making a difference in the lives of our local youth, Maclean sought out Future Next in August of 2013. Maclean is a known leader in the marketing industry. He is currently on several committees with the Interactive Leaderships Bureau (IAB) and helps develop the international standards around interactive advertising.  He has a unique combination of skills including state-of-the-art Search Engine Marketing, strategic marketing, Search Engine Optimization, creative development, and website design. Maclean draws experience from a rich background working across a variety of verticals, including non-profits, tourism, real estate, hospitality, fashion, and politics. Maclean has been involved in dozens of political races ranging from local races to presedential races. Maclean has become a staple on Capitol Hill and is routinely sought out for marketing advice and direction. We are proud to report that addition of Maclean to our board of directors. In addition to serving on the board, Maclean will be actively participating on our Marketing Committee.

David Friebele – Board Member at large
Master Educator

David Friebele is a master educator from the Washington, DC area with over 10 years of educational experience. David Friebele was born and raised in Prince George’s county, Maryland. He attended Capitol Heights Elementary School, Kenmore Middle School, and Suitland and Edmund Burke high schools. He then traveled south to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina where he majored in history and international studies with a minor in Spanish. While at Guilford, he studied abroad in Seville, Spain and played drums for the college jazz band.

After graduating, he returned to the DC area and became an AmeriCorps member where he tutored students in DC public schools. He soon realized his love for education and his passion for serving underprivileged youth and became the middle school math teacher for a Catholic School in Columbia Heights. Two years later, he decided to pursue his masters degree in education. Shortly after, he was offered a middle school math teaching position in a DC public charter school.

Over the next two years he earned a 3.97 GPA while conducting an action research project on research-based instructional strategies in the dc public charter school classroom, which was published by the Education Resource Information Center in 2010. His students achieved annual yearly progress in mathematics 2 years in a row, for which he was awarded the 21st Century Teacher of the Year Award and was promoted to Instructional Coach and then Academic Dean. He currently serves as a Reading and Math Specialist and Social Studies Curriculum Lead. Aside from education, David enjoys drumming, drawing, cooking, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Moronke Akinso – Board Member at large
Public Health Specialist

moronkeMoronke is a public health professional with a passion for generating and implementing innovative strategies to reduce health disparities for vulnerable populations. Although her interest lies in addressing health disparities, she strongly believes that providing the youth with the needed resources and fundamental skills to “keep them motivated, challenged, and engaged” are pivotal steps that should be taken to address the disparities found among minority youth. She has a special interest in mentoring the youth and has held various positions where she has been an advocate for youth in regards to skill development in all areas of life. Moronke received a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the George Washington University, and her Master’s in Public Health from Drexel University.

Oluwatomike Adeboyejo – Student Board Member
High School Student

tomiOluwatomike also known as Tomi has been a resident in Waldorf, Maryland for 16 years; currently, she is a junior at Westlake High School. Tomi is a student that not only raises the bar, but sets standards for herself, as well as those around her. Post high school she plans to attend college, double majoring in philosophy and political sciences. She is the epitome of role models that young children look to, and will continue to be a leader in FNC youth movement. Since joining the Student Board, she has demonstrated her determination and passion, which fuels her desire to give back to the community that has already given her so much; Tomi plans to further her charities with the help of Future Next beside her. Having witnessed the impact Future Next has had, and continues to have, on those it has already touched, Tomi feels that it would be a great honor to serve as a student board member and on the youth committee.
